Welcome to Southern Streams - I am owner and guide Brett D. Haynes and look forward to making your next fishing trip one you talk about for years. I fish the rivers and streams in Southern Missouri and Northwestern Arkansas. I have been fly-fishing for over 23 years and my passion for trout is unmatched. With over 1,000 days on the rivers in Missouri and Arkansas, it is my pleasure to give you a trip you will never forget. 

I specialize in fly fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout, but can help you with some of the best Smallmouth Bass and Goggle-eye, as well.

I enjoy guiding all levels of experience from your first fish to the “big one” you have always wanted to catch.  I can help you find and start your passion to the sport by catering to whatever you are looking for. We can nymph all day, throw big Woolly’s to see what we catch, or delicately place a Bug Puppet on the water and watch them rise to take it. 

We can float all day in the boat, stopping to wade, if you wish.  I can customize your trip to fit your interest and style. 

Lunch is based on your palate.  I can make anything from a sandwich, chips and fruit in the boat or prepare your morning’s catch with any side you would like.  Then, cheesecake for dessert.  Possibilities are endless and prepared just the way you want.

The Niangua is one of the most beautiful back-country, spring-fed fishing rivers in Missouri.  We are the only ones on the river for miles or even all day. It is so clear that you can see the fish suck the fly from the surface and watch him fight all the way to the boat. I offer one- or two-day drifts to this best kept secret in Missouri.  On the two-day drift, I will cook a mouth-watering dinner to your liking, whether it be steak or the day’s catch with a crisp salad and sides. Then prepare you a taste-bud awakening breakfast the next morning. This trip includes two lunches.  The two-day drift on the Niangua covers 22 miles of river with an overnight stop at a resort with air-conditioned cabins or we can “rough it” in a primitive campground with a tent.

Then on the second day of fishing, we are in one of the most isolated parts of the river that is home to some of the biggest Brown Trout and Small-mouth Bass you’ll ever have a chance to catch. It also has a large abundance of Rainbow Trout, too. There are four deep pools of water along this part of the river that hold some nice sized fish,  as well as some small tight turns with downed tree branches that the fish like to hide in. 

I also guide on two of the world record holding rivers in Arkansas, the White and Little Red. This trip you can hunt for the Big Browns dog-day style, (early morning with a break in the middle and then late into the night. This is when they are the most active.) or fish all day and see what we can catch on a big streamer or Woolly. I drift you from the dam at Bull Shoal’s to Cotter for a one day trip. The 2-day drift includes a stay at His Place Resort, or whichever of the fabulous resorts the area has to offer. There are lots of places to rest on the White.  Then for the second day of fishing, we will drift to Mountain Home.

I guide on several other rivers in Missouri and Arkansas, just tell me what you are looking for. I only drift fish, as my boat is McKenzie style and I only use oars, so all lakes and ponds are hard to row on a windy day.

In addition to guided fishing, I offer a family adventure trip that is fun for the whole family without the worries. 

I also have a romantic drift along the Niangua River for two that starts at 1:00 p.m. and includes a fine dining experience next to a clear river and ends with a sunset memory soon not forgotten.  It’s a great trip to plan that “special question” for someone or just to reconnect.  You sit next to each other enjoying the relaxing river and nature around, while allowing me to do all the work.
